FACT: We Don’t Need To Wait Until Next Week To Know Where Donald Trump Stands on a National Abortion Ban

In response to Trump claiming that he will make a major announcement on abortion next week, DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:

“We don’t need to wait until next week to know where Donald Trump stands on abortion – he has been peddling the same anti-choice extremism for years. In his first term, Trump backed a national abortion ban and handpicked the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade — and he’s campaigning on that now in his sad bid for a second term. If Trump gets the chance, he’s made it crystal clear that he’ll take his losing agenda of ripping away reproductive freedom even further, and that’s why voters will soundly reject him this November.”

We expect more of the same from Trump next week: anti-choice extremism and plans to ban abortion nationwide that he’s been peddling for years.

Rolling Stone“Trump Wants to Ban Abortion Nationwide: Report”

New York Times: “Trump Privately Expresses Support for a 16-Week Abortion Ban”

Rolling Stone: “Trump Floats National Abortion Ban After Claiming He’s ‘On the Side of Women’”

Trump“There of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it’s very important.”

Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban: “I’m looking at all options.”

Trump: “We’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life … I’m going to be in there pushing.”

In case you forgot: Trump already backed a national abortion ban in his first term.

The Hill“The Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. … It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.”

Trump“There has to be some form of punishment [for women who have abortions].”

Trump continues to brag about his role in overturning Roe v. Wade, which paved the way for MAGA Republicans to rip away reproductive freedoms across the country.

Trump“For 54 years they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it, and I’m proud to have done it. … Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.”

Trump: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!”

Rolling Stone“Trump Claims Credit for All Abortion Bans”

Business Insider: “Trump boasts he’s ‘proud’ about his role in overturning Roe v. Wade, the issue that has become ballot-box poison for Republicans”

Rolling Stone: “Trump Says He’s ‘Proud’ to Have ‘Terminated’ Abortion Rights”

Trump campaign radio ad: “And Trump nominated conservative judges, leading to Roe v. Wade being overturned.”

FWIW“This week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in ‘moderating’ on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as ‘THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.’”

Trump“I’m the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.”

Trump“Getting rid of Roe v. Wade was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade, to negotiate with. … And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.”

Trump’s MAGA allies are fully on board, pushing for a deeply unpopular plan that would allow him to ban abortion without Congress.

NOTUS“The Conservative Plan to Ban Abortion Without Congress”

“Anti-abortion advocates hope a Republican president will enforce a series of laws from the 1800s that will ‘result in the end of abortion in every single state in America.’”

“Anti-abortion activists have their eyes on a bigger prize: If former President Donald Trump wins a second term in the White House, they hope and expect that he’ll effectively ban abortions throughout the United States by prohibiting the shipment not just of abortion drugs, but any tools doctors could use to induce an abortion.

“Republican presidential candidates have been under pressure from prominent anti-abortion organizations to back a federal ban. … Enforcing the Comstock Act could make it much easier for a future GOP administration — likely Trump’s — to severely restrict abortion without lawmakers.”

“The Washington Post reported that the former president was interested in ‘Washington’s role’ in limiting abortion — meaning that anti-abortion groups’ cries may not be falling on deaf ears. … A former Trump administration official told NOTUS that when it comes to Comstock, it’s possible Trump would pledge to enforce it if it meant he’d get endorsements.”

“Project 2025, the presidential transition plan backed by many of Trump’s conservative allies and embraced by other Republicans, calls for Comstock’s enforcement. … Among the actions that the project considers a priority during this period, Chretien said, is enforcing Comstock.”

USA Today“Americans overwhelmingly oppose the next goal of many anti-abortion activists, to enact a federal law banning abortion nationwide. By 80%-14%, those surveyed opposed that idea, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents.”

Axios: “Most Americans support abortion access one year after Roe v. Wade: poll”

CNN: “A 64% majority of US adults say they disapprove of last year’s Supreme Court ruling that women do not have a constitutional right to an abortion, with half strongly disapproving – an assessment that’s almost entirely unchanged from CNN’s poll last July in the immediate wake of the decision.”

DNC Statement on Transgender Day of Visibility

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, Secretary Jason Rae, and DNC LGBTQ Caucus Chair Earl Fowlkes released the following statement on Transgender Day of Visibility:

“On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the courage and resilience of transgender and nonbinary Americans and celebrate their many contributions to our country. In recent years, political and legal attacks against the LGBTQ+ community have rapidly increased across our country. While this day should be a moment of celebration, we must also take stock of the hardships this community faces on a daily basis and recognize the victims of transphobic violence. So far in 2024, almost five hundred anti-transgender bills have been introduced in forty-two different states. Extreme MAGA Republicans want to restrict access to health care, attack LGBTQ+ education in our schools, and target LGBTQ+ youth. They are determined to create a future where the fundamental right to love who you love and be who you are is stripped away.

“Democrats across the country are determined to protect our transgender and nonbinary friends and family from hatred, violence, and discrimination. President Biden rescinded the ban on openly transgender people serving in the military, and with a historic number of openly LGBTQ+ public servants in the administration, we are working every day to make our country more accessible and inclusive for transgender and nonbinary Americans.

“As the trangender and nonbinary community continues to inspire us all through their bravery, strength, and heart, Democrats are committed to doing our part in working to create a society where their personal freedom and courage is celebrated and accepted in every corner of the country. Trans rights are human rights, and we will not stop until those rights are secured nationwide.”

DNC on César Chávez Day

On César Chávez Day, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, DNC Hispanic Caucus Chair Iris Martinez, and DNC Labor Council Chair Stuart Appelbaum released the following statement:

“Today and every day, we honor César Chávez’s dedication and commitment to improving the lives of workers across the country. He advocated tirelessly for labor law reform and ensured that workers could have basic human rights and protections, were treated with dignity, and received recognition for their contributions.

“Under the leadership of President Biden, Democrats are carrying the torch on behalf of César Chávez and his mission. President Biden is fighting for working people by growing the economy from the middle out and bottom up. As the most pro-union president in American history, he protected millions of union workers’ pensions, strengthened workers’ right to organize, and proudly stood on the picket line with the United Auto Workers, as the first sitting president to ever do so. While Donald Trump spent four years in office undermining unions and cutting taxes for large corporations, President Biden is prioritizing workers and putting people above corporate greed.

“Today, we are reminded of the values César Chávez embodied, the vision of freedom he fought for, and his commitment to justice and dignity – one that we must uphold every day. As long as Democrats are in office, César Chávez’s legacy lives on and workers nationwide can count on having pro-union, pro-worker leaders fighting hard on their behalf. This November, workers’ rights are on the ballot, and it is imperative that when we vote, we do so for a future that would make César Chávez proud.”

DNC Statement on Easter

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement in celebration of Easter:

“Every year, Christians around the world gather to celebrate Easter and reflect on the story of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. The story of Easter inspires hope, faith, and renewal. It asks us to stand firm in our convictions and trust in the impossible. During times of struggle and when hope seems lost, Easter’s lessons remind us that through the power of belief, we can and will persevere. As you spend time with your family and celebrate this holiday grounded in faith and love, I wish all who celebrate a very happy and blessed Easter.”

ICYMI: TMZ: DNC Roasts Lara Trump’s Newly Released Song With AI Diss Track

Key Point: “DNC Chair Jamie Harrison doubled down on the criticism, adding … ‘[LT]’s ‘music career’ is just like her time at the RNC so far: embarrassing, unserious, and a waste of money.’”

TMZ: Lara Trump’s Newly Released Song Track Roasted by DNC with AI Diss Track

  • Lara Trump’s attempting to fuse her real job with her dream job — that’s why she recorded a politically charged song, and the Democrats are quickly firing back with a diss track.

  • Take a listen to the new song, “Party’s Fallin’ Down” … which roasts Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law for her rocky start to heading up the Republican National Committee.

  • Naturally, the Dems took plenty of shots at Lara, with the chorus notably stating … “Oh Lara, Lara, what have you done? The party’s fallin’ down, it’s no longer fun. Oh Lara, Lara, can’t you see. [Your] leadership’s sinking Trump’s GOP.”

  • FWIW, it’s quite the earworm.

  • ICYMI, Lara was elected the RNC’s co-chair earlier in March — after former chairwoman Ronna McDaniel resigned amid former prez Trump’s call for new leadership. Lara serves alongside Michael Whatley, the former chair of the North Carolina Republican Party.

  • DNC Chair Jamie Harrison doubled down on the criticism, adding … “[LT]’s ‘music career’ is just like her time at the RNC so far: embarrassing, unserious, and a waste of money.”

Abortion was in the spotlight once again this week as the Supreme Court heard arguments in a case threatening access to medication abortion thanks to Donald Trump’s work overturning Roe v. Republicans’ Ground Game in the States: Strapped, Sputtering, and Shuttered

It’s been an awful week for Donald Trump and the GOP as headline after headline has come out revealing how Republicans’ ground game across the country is skeletal, struggling for cash and shutting down offices.

“Under Trump, MAGA Republicans’ disorganization and chaos are leaving their infrastructure and ground game in the dust, but that’s no surprise considering these are the same extremists that are making election denialism a litmus test for employment,” DNC spokesperson Rhyan Lake said. “Coupled with their extreme agenda to rip away Americans’ freedoms and drag our country backward, the GOP has a losing message and flailing operation. The contrast couldn’t be more stark as Democrats in critical battleground states and beyond are unified, fortified, and ready to defeat MAGA Republicans once again.”

Take a look at the latest:

AP: Trump slow to invest in states that could decide election as some in GOP fear ‘skeleton’ campaign

“The Trump campaign and its partners at the Republican National Committee haven’t yet made significant general election investments in the state, according to Michigan Republican Party Chairman Pete Hoekstra. The national committee, he said, hasn’t transferred any money to the state party to help bolster its operations heading into the general election. There are no specific programs in place to court voters of color. And there’s no general election field staff in place.

“We’ve got the skeleton right now,” Hoekstra said. “We’re going to have to put more meat on it.”

“It’s much the same in presidential battleground states across the country, according to Republican operatives and party officials involved in campaign planning elsewhere.

“Indeed, just six months before the first early votes are cast in the general election between Trump and Biden, Trump’s Republican Party has little general election infrastructure to speak of.”

Axios: Trump’s RNC struggles in swing states as Biden’s team grows

“The Trump-led Republican National Committee is scrambling to boost staffs and give loyalty tests in seven battleground states at a time when several GOP state parties are plagued by dysfunction and disarray.

“Why it matters: Less than eight months before the Nov. 5 election, significant parts of the RNC’s get-out-the-vote operation in states likely to decide the election are playing catch-up after Trump’s team ousted 60 staffers in its recent takeover.

“The big picture: Many Republicans fear the RNC upheaval — and unrelated chaos in state parties, particularly in swing states Michigan and Arizona — is a setback for a party that for years has tried to get more volunteers to recruit support in their neighborhoods.”

MSNBC: Trump’s RNC arrangement could suck the life out of state GOP chapters

“Over the last couple years, several local Republican Party chapters have fallen into financial ruin, in many cases after squandering their money promoting Donald Trump’s bogus allegations of fraud in the 2020 election.

“Now the former president’s new fundraising arrangement with the Republican National Committee could worsen the GOP’s financial woes at the local level, according to NBC News

“So state parties will be last in line to receive funding. And that’s bad news for the many state-level GOP chapters — including several in potential swing states — that have struggled to get their finances in order and looked to the RNC for help ever since 2020. Those include the Michigan GOP, the Arizona GOP, the Colorado GOP and the Minnesota GOP, just to name a few.”

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: RNC’s former Hispanic outreach center in Milwaukee soon to become an ice cream shop

“If the Republican National Committee wants to reopen its Hispanic outreach center in Milwaukee this cycle, it’s going to need to find a new space.

“The center’s former location will soon be an ice cream shop.

“The RNC in January told the Journal Sentinel it planned to reopen the Milwaukee center after quietly closing it and others across the country following the midterms. In recent weeks, however, several media outlets reported former President Donald Trump’s campaign threw out the plans to open new minority outreach centers and revive previous locations.

“An RNC spokeswoman declined to answer questions about the status of its plans for the Milwaukee Hispanic center. She did not respond this week when asked if the committee was searching for another Milwaukee location now that a new tenant leased its former space.”

The Detroit News: Michigan Republican Party office was ‘stripped down to the bare bones,’ new leader says

“The new leader of the Michigan Republican Party says his administration is having trouble taking control of the state GOP’s website and tracking down computers that are reportedly worth $113,000, seven months before a pivotal presidential election.”

“After months of internal divisions and fundraising struggles, members of the Michigan GOP’s state committee voted to unseat Karamo as the party’s chairwoman on Jan. 6.”

Axios: The AZGOP is selling the headquarters it bought 9 months ago

“After just nine months, the Arizona Republican Party’s new headquarters is about to become its old headquarters.”

“The big picture: The AZGOP has been plagued by dysfunction and poor fundraising over the past few years, just as it attempts to fight back against recent Democratic political gains.”

Albuquerque Journal: RNC closed Hispanic community centers in District 2, but hasn’t given up on flipping the congressional seat

“In August 2022, the Republican National Committee opened with fanfare a “Hispanic community center” in the South Valley.

But the center quietly closed after Election Day 2022, when Yvette Herrell narrowly lost her reelection bid to current Congressman Gabe Vasquez.”

CT Mirror: Will RNC reopen Black, Latino community center in CT? It’s unclear

“But shortly after the end of the midterm elections season, the RNC wound down many of the centers, with only a handful remaining open. The RNC’s Black & Hispanic Community Center in New Britain shut down at the end of 2022, apparently one of the casualties.

Trump’s Crooks, Cranks, and Convicts: Trump is Bringing Back Ultra-MAGA Creep Corey Lewandowski… Again

This week, we’re highlighting some of the crooks, cranks, and convicts that make up Donald Trump’s MAGA GOP. As Trump eyes Corey Lewandowski for a role in the GOP Convention, DNC spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:

“Corey Lewandowski is the latest MAGA reject returning to Trump’s orbit, with a resume that includes criminal charges for battery against a journalist and a police complaint for sexual assault. Trump is scraping the bottom of the barrel to staff up his campaign with unemployable lowlifes like Lewandowski who are desperate enough to work for a loser like him.”

Corey Lewandowski is not only helping out Trump’s campaign, he’s on the shortlist to help run the Republican National Convention — despite facing battery charges and allegations of physically assaulting a journalist.

New York Times: “Aides to former President Donald J. Trump are discussing getting Corey Lewandowski, Mr. Trump’s former campaign manager who was shoved out of a pro-Trump super PAC in 2021, involved in the Republican National Convention, according to two people briefed on the discussions.”

InDepthNH: “The Republican frontrunner, former President Donald Trump, filed as a candidate for the Republican Presidential Primary in New Hampshire Monday saying if elected he would bring down utility prices for Granite Staters by building a pipeline. … Accompanying him at the desk for the signing of paperwork was Corey Lewandowski, who was 2016 campaign director for Trump and continues to be a political operative.”

Politico: “Lewandowski was also charged with battery in 2016 after yanking the arm of a reporter, Michelle Fields, at a Trump campaign event. The charges were later dropped, but Lewandowski, who at the time was serving as Trump’s campaign manager, claimed the incident never happened before video emerged confirming that it did.”

Trump and his team have a long history of attacking the press, including repeatedly calling the media the “enemy of the people.”

CNN: “In a particularly disturbing conversation this week, Trump’s former top political strategist, Steve Bannon, and former National Security Council adviser, Kash Patel, openly discussed plans to target the press. Bannon, who underscored that such promises are ‘not just rhetoric’ and that they are ‘absolutely dead serious’ about seeking revenge against journalists, asked Patel, who would likely serve in a second Trump administration, whether he could ‘deliver the goods.’ Patel responded affirmatively, vowing that a re-empowered Trump would indeed ‘come after’ the press.”

Washington Post: “President Trump lashed out anew Monday at the news media, calling it ‘the true Enemy of the People,’ and he again blamed what he called ‘fraudulent’ reporting for anger that has led to a spate of recent violence in the country.”

The Hill: “Mainstream media outlets are ‘not only dishonest and corrupt,’ the former president said, but ‘they are truly, according to a recent poll, the enemy of the people.’”

CNBC: “President Trump told Lesley Stahl he bashes press ‘to demean you and discredit you so … no one will believe’ negative stories about him.”

Politico: “[Trump] also returned to scathing attacks on the news media just one week after a gunman killed five journalists at a Maryland newspaper. He derided the press as ‘fake news,’ ‘bad people’ and ‘so damn dishonest.’ ‘They’re fake,’ he said, pointing at the press area in the arena. ‘These are really bad people.’”

ABC News: “Trump blames media for ‘anger’ in country amid mail bomb campaign.”

New York Times: “In urging the crowd to vote for Representative Greg Gianforte, who is running for re-election and who was sentenced to anger management classes and community service for assaulting a reporter last spring, Mr. Trump jokingly warned the crowd to ‘never wrestle him.’ ‘I had heard he body-slammed a reporter,’ Mr. Trump said, noting that he was initially concerned that Mr. Gianforte would lose in a special election last May. ‘I said, ‘Wait a minute. I know Montana pretty well; I think it might help him.’ And it did.’”

Associated Press: “A second Trump administration will ‘come after’ people in the media in the courts, an ally says.”

Trump’s circle is filled with election deniers, conspiracy theorists, and convicted felons.

Axios: “Trump eyes convicts and conspiracists for 2024 reunion”

“Sidelined characters from former President Trump’s past campaigns — ‘crazies,’ some of his top advisers call them — are reattaching themselves to his inner circle now that he’s locked up the Republican nomination. … ex-advisers, conspiracy theorists and convicted felons are now knocking on the campaign’s door — and some are getting in.”

New York Times: “Paul Manafort, a top adviser to Donald J. Trump’s 2016 campaign who was pardoned by the former president at the end of his White House term, is in discussions to return to help with the Republican National Convention.”

“Mr. Manafort was found guilty in late August 2018 of a range of financial crimes, including tax and bank fraud.

“In September 2018, Mr. Manafort pleaded guilty to additional charges brought by Mr. Mueller and agreed to cooperate. But as the case proceeded, Mr. Mueller said that Mr. Manafort had not been truthful in his cooperation, breaching that plea deal.”

Washington Post: “Former president Donald Trump is preparing to bring back into his campaign fold a man convicted of multiple crimes and whom a bipartisan Senate report labeled a ‘grave counterintelligence threat’ because of his ties to a Russian spy.”

The Guardian: “Headache for campaign team as Trump gets the band back together”

New York Times: “Former President Donald J. Trump recently told aides to hire Laura Loomer, a far-right and anti-Muslim activist with a history of expressing bigoted views, for a campaign role, according to four people familiar with the plans. Mr. Trump met with Ms. Loomer recently and directed advisers to give her a role in support of his candidacy.”

Rolling Stone: “They Helped Trump Plan a Coup. He Wants Them Back for a Second Term”

The Hill: “Trump says he’ll bring back Michael Flynn if he wins in 2024: ‘He’s some man’”

CNN: “Trump hosted Holocaust denier at Mar-a-Lago estate during visit with Kanye West, a week after announcing 2024 run”

The president also traveled to Reno, Nevada, this week to speak about the actions he’s taking to lower housing costs for the American people. It’s a stark contrast to Donald Trump who spent his career keeping rents high, putting homeownership out of reach from working people, and would drive up costs to enrich his wealthy friends if he gets another term.

President Biden’s agenda is touching every corner of the country and delivering for Americans one project at a time, and local economies are reaping the benefits.

With all of the historic accomplishments President Biden and Vice President Harris are delivering for hardworking families, it’s no surprise that MAGA Republicans keep trying to take the credit. One big problem: They voted against these achievements, and if it were up to Trump or other MAGA Republicans, Americans wouldn’t be reaping the benefits.

DNC Launches Digital Ads in Local Newspapers Across Battleground States on Threat Trump Poses to Americans’ Health Care on ACA Anniversary

Today, ahead of the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the Democratic National Committee launched a new ad campaign in local newspapers in seven battleground states blasting Donald Trump for his plan to repeal the ACA and decimate health coverage for millions of Americans.

The ads will appear as digital homepage takeovers of local newspaper websites in the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin. With the majority of Americans putting greater trust in local news, this ad campaign builds on the DNC’s strategic focus of reaching voters in their own communities through mediums they value. The ACA campaign marks the DNC’s most wide-reaching local newspaper campaign so far this cycle.

“Donald Trump wants the American people to know that he’ll stop at nothing to ‘terminate’ lifesaving health care protections for the millions of people who rely on the Affordable Care Act, so we’re making sure voters hear him loud and clear in the outlets they know and trust,” DNC spokesperson Rhyan Lake said. “Trump’s plans to spike premiums and prescription drug costs and skyrocket uninsurance rates is as unpopular as it is dangerous, and is a stark contrast to President Biden’s agenda of taking on Big Pharma to lower health care costs and making affordable coverage more accessible. Americans know that a vote for Trump is a vote to destroy health care and that’s why they’ll reject him once again this November.”
