Donald Trump’s Record Shows Why He Doesn’t “Do Well With American Women”

As Donald Trump’s Fox News Town Hall on women’s issues airs today, DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:

“Donald Trump said himself he doesn’t ‘do well with American women’ — and his record spells out exactly why. From ‘proudly’ overturning Roe v. Wade and paving the way for cruel abortion bans to attacking health care coverage and access to contraception, Trump has spent his political career trying to rip away women’s freedoms. Today, Trump will show women once again why his Project 2025 is a dangerous assault on our basic rights that American women will reject in November.”

WHAT HE’S DONE:

Trump: “I was able to kill Roe v. Wade”

WHAT HE’LL DO IN A SECOND TERM THROUGH HIS PROJECT 2025 AGENDA:

Trump: “There of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it’s very important.”

LIKE HE SAID:

Trump: “I hear that I don’t do well with American women.”

ICYMI: Rachel Maddow Confirms Biden-Harris Administration Makes the “Business Choice” in this Election Kamala Harris

Key Point: “Just on the facts, if your business decision is economic performance broadly, that breaks for Harris. If your business decision is the deficit, that breaks for Harris. If your business decision is inflation, that breaks for Harris. If your business decision is on whether the candidate is bipartisan seeming and can appeal across both parties, clearly that’s Harris.”

MSNBC: Rachel Maddow calls the bluff of Trump supporters who claim to be making a ‘business decision’

  • Tell me, what is a business decision in this case? I mean, is it who will do a better job handling the economy? Because as we come to the end of the Biden-Harris administration now, I mean, here’s the special report that’s just put out today by the Economist magazine. The title is, quote, “The American economy, the envy of the world.”
  • That’s the American economy at the end of the Biden-Harris Administration. If you’re making a business decision about who will do a better job handling the economy, well, the Biden-Harris economy has not only left every other rich country in the world in the dust, it has left the record of the Trump Administration in the dust.
  • Literally, what they’re calling a dream economy. The best job market in the history of the United States. That’s what the Biden-Harris administration has done in their management of the U.S. economy. So, is that what you’re basing your business decision on?

  • Maybe you’re a fiscal hawk, and that’s the basis of your business decision that you’re making about who to support here. Well, here’s the headline today at the “Wall Street Journal”: “Economists Say Inflation, and Deficits Will Be Higher Under Trump Than Harris.”
  • Similarly, let’s say your business decision on this election is on inflation. Well, that’s also a business decision about this election that should point you in one direction. Quote, “of the economists who responded to the ‘Wall Street Journal’s’ question onto inflation, 68% said prices would rise faster under Trump than under Harris.”

  • Just on the facts, if your business decision is economic performance broadly, that breaks for Harris. If your business decision is the deficit, that breaks for Harris. If your business decision is inflation, that breaks for Harris. If your business decision is on whether the candidate is bipartisan seeming and can appeal across both parties, clearly that’s Harris.

DNC Hosts Press Call on Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda’s Threat to Rural America As Early Vote Kicks Off This Week in GA, NC, IA, KS

Democratic Rural Leaders Expose Harms Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda Would Inflict on Rural Families as Key States with Significant Rural Populations – Including Georgia and North Carolina – Kick Off Early Vote

Today, the DNC hosted a press call highlighting the damage that Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda would impose on rural America. The call featured former Georgia state Senator and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jason Carter, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton, DNC Rural Coalitions Director Bre Maxwell, and Wisconsin farmer and small business owner Dylan Bruce to discuss how Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would harm rural families.

Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would gut checks and balances and devastate rural communities across America. Not only does Trump’s Project 2025 agenda include plans to slash farmers’ safety nets, tear away crucial investments in rural connectivity and infrastructure, and worsen health care access for rural communities across the country – it would also defund public schools and eliminate child care rural communities depend on.

Find highlights from the press call below:

“When I was in the State Senate, when I ran for Governor, both my grandfathers were also in the state Senate and represented rural areas from North Georgia and South Georgia. Of course, my one grandfather is a farmer in a peanut warehouse in Southwest Georgia, Jimmy Carter. Those rural roots and the reason he got into politics are the same reason that I got into politics–which is to help regular people, without distinction between urban and rural, but too often over the last several decades and really longer, you’ve seen, especially in Georgia, the rural community get left behind again and again,” said former Georgia state Senator and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jason Carter. “And what we have now in this election is an opportunity to do two things: one is to have the political parties engage rural voters in a real way, and that is incredibly valuable. In fact, if you look at Donald Trump’s actual agenda, the damage that it would do to rural Georgia is enormous and stands in stark contrast to what you have seen over the last several years, which is an unprecedented investment in rural America and particularly in rural Georgia.”

“We can already see the impacts of MAGA Republicans’ Medicaid attacks: In states where Republicans have blocked Medicaid expansion, like our neighboring state of Georgia, rural hospitals have closed, severely limited emergency care access, or slashed specialist care, like OB/GYN care, due to lack of funding. A majority of the more than 5 million women of reproductive age without easy access to obstetric providers live in rural communities,” said North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton. “This is Donald Trump’s legacy. In states with abortion bans like mine, because Trump overturned Roe v. Wade, women cannot access the care they need. Since 2022, report after report continues to confirm states with abortion bans are experiencing worsening – sometimes deadly – health outcomes. Data also shows medical residents are now avoiding states with abortion bans – exacerbating existing health care provider shortages in rural communities.”

“Now, I want to make clear, Donald Trump’s agenda exemplified by Project 2025’s anti-farmer policies is nothing new — every single year he was in office, Trump pushed massive cuts to USDA and sided with special interests over small farmers. It doesn’t matter how much he tries to distance himself from Project 2025 or claims to disavow it, because he already proved with his actions that he doesn’t care about farmers and rural communities,” said Wisconsin farmer and small business owner Dylan Bruce. “Somehow, Trump still has the audacity to insult our intelligence with ad after ad filled with lie after lie after lie. But farmers in Wisconsin and across the country remember those days. We refuse to let Trump pull the wool over our eyes with empty promises aimed to distract America’s farmers and rural communities from the truth about their plans to tear away our financial security and rip away our shot to compete with the big guys.”

“As Democrats, we know it is our job to communicate our winning message to all voters, including those in rural communities. Vice President Harris, Governor Walz and the Harris-Walz coalition have led that example – showing up in rural communities across the country to bring our positive vision directly to rural voters,”  said DNC Rural Coalitions Director Bre Maxwell. “There is a clear choice in this election for rural Americans and all Americans – Donald Trump and JD Vance’s Project 2025 agenda would devastate rural communities – closing hospitals, driving costs skyhigh, dismantling public education and child care, and leaving our farmers in the dust. Vice President Harris and Governor Walz have a different vision – one where every community can thrive regardless of where they show up on a map.”

ICYMI: The Biden-Harris Administration Is the First Administration In Five Decades To Have An Increase In Union Petitions

Key Point: “There has been a doubling of petitions by workers to have union representation during President Joe Biden’s administration, according to figures released Tuesday by the National Labor Relations Board.”

Associated Press: Petitions for union representation doubled under Biden’s presidency, first increase since 1970s

By: Josh Boak

  • There has been a doubling of petitions by workers to have union representation during President Joe Biden’s administration, according to figures released Tuesday by the National Labor Relations Board.
  • There were 3,286 petitions filed with the government in fiscal 2024, up from 1,638 in 2021. This marks the first increase in unionization petitions during a presidential term since Gerald Ford’s administration, which ended 48 years ago.
  • During Trump’s presidency, union petitions declined 22%.
  • President Joe Biden said in a statement obtained by The Associated Press that the increase showed that his administration has done more for workers than his predecessor, Donald Trump, the current Republican nominee who is vying to return to the White House in November’s election.
  • “After the previous administration sided with big corporations to undermine workers — from blocking overtime pay protections to making it harder to organize — my Administration has supported workers,” Biden said. “Because when unions do well, all workers do well and the entire economy benefits.”
  • Workers have also become more empowered to report what they judge to be unfair labor practices. The National Labor Relations Board said its field offices received a total of 24,578 cases last fiscal year, the most in more than a decade.

Donald Trump Wants to Blow Up the Deficit With His “Inflation Bomb” of a Project 2025 Agenda

Ahead of Donald Trump’s interview with Bloomberg News and the Economic Club of Chicago, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:

“Economists are sounding the alarm: Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would create an ‘inflation bomb’ and skyrocket the deficit while hiking costs. The Trump-Vance ticket would double down on the MAGAnomics failures of Trump’s first term after he added nearly two trillion dollars to the national deficit with his tax scam, created new incentives for companies to send jobs overseas, and left office with the worst jobs record in modern American history. The American people are not going back – they will reject the Trump-Vance ticket’s plans to devastate our economy and vote for Vice President Harris and Governor Walz, who will always put hardworking Americans first.”

The extreme, unpopular, and unaffordable Trump-Vance Project 2025 agenda would once again gift tax breaks to the ultra-rich and big corporations while causing an “inflation bomb.”

Wall Street Journal: “Economists Say Inflation, Deficits Will Be Higher Under Trump Than Harris”

Axios: “16 Nobel economists see a Trump inflation bomb”

“Sixteen Nobel prize-winning economists are jumping into the presidential campaign with a stark warning: Former President Trump’s plans would reignite inflation and cause lasting harm to the global economy if he wins in November.”

The Atlantic: “Trump’s Plan to Supercharge Inflation”

Bloomberg: “[Trump] intends to center his economic plans on extending and deepening the Republican tax cuts from 2017.”

Wall Street Journal: “A drumbeat of reports from Wall Street economists have warned that Trump’s plans could substantially slow economic growth while driving up consumer prices.”

Washington Post: “Trump and his advisers have discussed deeper cuts to both individual and corporate tax rates that would build on his controversial 2017 tax law … Further cutting corporate taxes … would primarily benefit large firms.”

Center for American Progress: “Project 2025’s Tax Plan Would Raise Taxes on the Middle Class and Cut Taxes for the Wealthy”

“In [Project 2025], far-right extremist plans are outlined that raise taxes on low- and middle-income households to finance tax cuts for the wealthy and large corporations. Project 2025’s tax plan includes an ‘intermediate tax reform’ that includes changes to tax brackets and corporate tax cuts that would shift the tax burden toward middle-income households…

“The shift toward a flat consumption tax while eliminating income taxes would lead to an average $5,900 tax increase for the middle 20 percent of households and an average $2 million tax cut for the top 0.1 percent… Project 2025 does not stop at cutting taxes for wealthy individuals; it also proposes an array of tax cuts for corporations. … This would amount to a $24 billion tax cut for the Fortune 100, the 100 largest companies in America.”

CBS News: “Millions of low- and middle-class households would likely face significantly higher taxes under the Project 2025’s proposals.”

Project 2025: “The corporate income tax rate should be reduced to 18 percent.”

Donald Trump’s utter failure of an economic record put working people last by rigging the economy for billionaires, skyrocketing the deficit, and creating new incentives for companies to ship jobs overseas.

CBS News: “Two years after Trump tax cuts, middle-class Americans are falling behind”

Washington Post Analysis: “One of President Donald Trump’s lesser-known but profoundly damaging legacies will be the explosive rise in the national debt that occurred on his watch. The financial burden that he’s inflicted on our government will wreak havoc for decades, saddling our kids and grandkids with debt. The national debt has risen by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump’s time in office… The growth in the annual deficit under Trump ranks as the third-biggest increase, relative to the size of the economy, of any U.S. presidential administration.”

The Guardian: “‘He pulled the wool over our eyes’: workers blame Trump for moving jobs overseas”

“Promises to save US manufacturing and prevent American jobs moving abroad were a key part of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. But since Trump took office in January 2017, nearly 200,000 jobs have been moved overseas, based on Trade Adjustment Assistance certified petitions.”

ATTN HARRIS FAULKNER: Trump Must Answer for “Preventable” Deaths Under His Dangerous Abortion Bans

As Donald Trump brings his anti-choice Project 2025 agenda to Georgia today for his Fox News town hall with Harris Faulkner, DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:

“When Donald Trump brags about how he was ‘proudly’ able to ‘kill’ Roe v. Wade, he’s taking credit for women being denied emergency medical care and dying preventable deaths under the cruel abortion bans that followed. As women suffer from his extreme anti-choice agenda, Trump is hiding behind lies that reproductive freedom issues are ‘quelled’ and abortion bans are ‘working very brilliantly.’ Make no mistake: Trump has launched an all-out assault on our basic rights, and he must answer for his dangerous Project 2025 plans to take his cruel abortion bans nationwide.”

Donald Trump must answer for “preventable” deaths under the abortion bans he made possible.

ProPublica: “Abortion Bans Have Delayed Emergency Medical Care. In Georgia, Experts Say This Mother’s Death Was Preventable.”

“But ProPublica obtained reports that confirm that at least two women have already died after they couldn’t access legal abortions and timely medical care in their state…

“Thurman’s case marks the first time an abortion-related death, officially deemed ‘preventable,’ is coming to public light. ProPublica will share the story of the second in the coming days…

“But since abortion was banned or restricted in 22 states over the past two years, women in serious danger have been turned away from emergency rooms and told that they needed to be in more peril before doctors could help. Some have been forced to continue high-risk pregnancies that threatened their lives. Those whose pregnancies weren’t even viable have been told they could return when they were ‘crashing.’”

ProPublica: “Afraid to Seek Care Amid Georgia’s Abortion Ban, She Stayed at Home and Died”

Georgia Recorder: “Georgia now forbids most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, earlier than many women even think to buy a pregnancy test. When the measure passed in 2019, Georgia Republicans boasted it was the strictest law in the country.”

NBC News: “A dramatic rise in pregnant women dying in Texas after abortion ban”

Trump paved the way for draconian abortion bans — which he says are “working very brilliantly” — when he “proudly” overturned Roe v. Wade. Now, he’s dismissing reproductive freedom issues as “largely quelled.”

Trump: “I was proudly the person responsible for the ending of … Roe v. Wade.”

Trump: “We broke Roe v. Wade and we did something that nobody thought was possible. We gave it back to the states, and the states are working very brilliantly … But they’re working, and it’s working the way it’s supposed to.”

Trump: “I think that– and just getting back to your original thought on the abortion […] It’s back with the states, and it’s a vote of the people, and that’s where everybody wanted it to be. And I think that issue is largely quelled because of that.”

Trump: “For 54 years they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it, and I’m proud to have done it. … Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.”

Trump: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!”

Trump: “I’m the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.”

Trump: “Getting rid of Roe v. Wade was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade, to negotiate with. … And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.”

New York Times: 21 states across the country currently have abortion bans.

Trump, Vance, and their Project 2025 allies are pushing a dangerous Project 2025 agenda that would ban abortion nationwide, threaten access to IVF and contraception, and rip away reproductive freedoms.

Rolling Stone: “Trump Wants to Ban Abortion Nationwide: Report”

Trump: “There of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it’s very important.”

Trump: “There has to be some form of punishment [for women who have an abortion].”

Interviewer: “There are ads running that say that you would support certain states with bans monitoring a woman’s pregnancy.”

Trump: “Well that would be up to the states, again. They will make a decision as to how they do it.”

Washington Post:Vance urged DOJ to enforce Comstock Act, crack down on abortion pills”

New Republic: “On January 20, 2025, conservatives plan to resurrect a 150-year-old defunct law to ban abortion across the nation. This is not a secret plan—far from it. It’s part of the 180-Day Playbook produced by Project 2025, detailing priorities for an incoming conservative president on day one.”

Politico: “Anti-abortion advocates worked for five decades to topple Roe v. Wade. They’re now laying the groundwork for a yearslong fight to curb in vitro fertilization.

“Since the Alabama Supreme Court ruled last month that frozen embryos are children, the Heritage Foundation and other conservative groups have been strategizing how to convince not just GOP officials but evangelicals broadly that they should have serious moral concerns about fertility treatments like IVF and that access to them should be curtailed.”

Vance: “On the question of defunding Planned Parenthood […] our view is we don’t think that taxpayers should fund late term abortions. That has been a consistent view of the Trump campaign the first time around, it will remain a consistent view.”

Project 2025, page 471: “Prohibit Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funds… Policymakers should end taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.”

Media Matters: “The Heritage Foundation quietly released draconian new IVF policy recommendations for the next GOP president”

“Heritage has been a staunchly anti-IVF voice, supporting Alabama’s controversial Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos cultivated through IVF treatment have the same rights as living children, and that a person can be held liable for destroying embryos.”

The Nation: “Project 2025 Has Bad Medicine for HHS”

“And by declaring that life begins at conception, his manifesto appears to commit HHS to finding ways to outlaw IVF, which relies on generating multiple embryos, most of which are not implanted.”

The 19th: “RNC approves platform that would give rights to fetuses, endangering abortion, IVF”

“Fetal personhood is widely seen as being in conflict with in vitro fertilization (IVF), which creates embryos outside of the uterus that are later implanted. Fetal personhood bestows the same rights currently reserved for people to embryos from the moment of fertilization.”

Reproductive Freedom for All: “The extensive mandate calls to gut reproductive freedom, including effectively banning medication abortion, ending access to emergency abortion care, attacking contraception, deploying fetal personhood, and undermining IVF in federal policy…

“Project 2025 includes personhood language and policies that propagate the belief that life begins at conception—which could have devastating impacts should it be put into law. This so-called “personhood” language could ban not only abortion but also some forms of birth control and assisted fertility treatments like IVF.”

Rolling Stone: “Inside the MAGA Plan to Attack Birth Control, Surveil Women and Ban the Abortion Pill”

Vance: “I’ve reviewed a lot of [Project 2025]. There are some good ideas in there.”

Axios: “[Project 2025] is undeniably a Trump-driven operation.”
