During RNC Donor Retreat, DNC Running Digital and Billboard Ads to Hold Republicans Accountable

While Republicans hobnob in Palm Beach and at Mar-a-Lago, the Democratic National Committee continued its efforts to hold them accountable for opposing the overwhelmingly popular American Rescue Plan and voting to leave families high and dry during the pandemic.

The efforts include a mobile billboard outside Mar-a-Lago and the Four Seasons hotel where the RNC retreat will be held, new digital ads targeting Republican elected officials attending the retreat, and a new digital video. These efforts are the latest tactics in the DNC’s larger campaign to tell Americans that thanks to President Biden and Democrats, and no thanks to Republicans, help is here.

“Nothing is more indicative of the sorry state the Republican Party is in than a bunch of mini-Trumps hanging out at Mar-a-Lago for their own version of the Apprentice.

“While Republicans hobnob, President Biden and Democrats are delivering for everyday Americans, putting vaccines in arms, money in pockets, and bringing normalcy back.”-DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa

See below for key elements of this weekend’s efforts:

MAR-A-LAGO MOBILE BILLBOARD: Over the weekend, the DNC will also deploy a mobile billboard outside Mar-a-Lago and the Four Seasons hotel where the RNC retreat will be held.

DNC Announces New Staff Hires

Today, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and Executive Director Sam Cornale announced several new additions to the Democratic National Committee’s team. Anatole Jenkins has been named Chief of Staff of the Political Department, and Shelby Cole has been hired as Deputy Chief Mobilization Officer for Content and Creative. Jean Doherty has been brought on to serve as Director of the Secretary’s Office, and Juan Ortega has been promoted to serve as Director of Surrogate Strategy for the DNC.

“We are thrilled to announce new additions to our team at the DNC,” said DNC Chair Jaime Harrison. “These new staff hires are among the best our party has to offer and will bring experience, diversity and strength to the Democratic Party. These new additions to our team will help us to continue to grow our party, and elect more Democrats in 2021, 2022, and beyond.”

“Republicans beware: Joe Biden’s DNC is strong and only getting stronger — and the continued top talent we’re bringing on is yet another proof point,” said DNC Executive Director Sam Cornale. “Democrats nationwide will benefit from the talent of these new hires as we continue to grow and strengthen our party. With their help, we can build on our successes, elect more Democrats, and — most importantly — deliver for the American people.”

“I’m excited to welcome these new hires to the building and am really impressed with the team we’re building under Chair Harrison,” said DNC Secretary Jason Rae. “In particular, I’m thrilled to have Jeannie join the team as the new Director of the Office of the Secretary. She brings a wealth of experiences and connections that will prove instrumental as we continue to engage DNC members and build back better.”

Shelby Cole is a nationally recognized digital strategist with nearly 10 years of experience building teams and directing unique online campaigns for Democrats. Prior to joining the DNC, she served as Digital Director for Vice President Kamala Harris, both on the Biden-Harris campaign and on Vice President Harris’ presidential primary campaign. Shelby led Beto O’Rourke’s digital program for his 2018 U.S Senate campaign, breaking national fundraising records and winning the AAPC’s Campaign Excellence Award for Fundraiser of the Year. In 2016, she served as digital fundraising director for Russ Feingold’s U.S. Senate campaign—the top-raising Senate campaign of the cycle.

Jean Doherty recently assisted the DNC leadership with the transition of Chairs Perez and Harrison. Before this role, she served as the Senior Director of Housing and Credentials for the 2020 Democratic National Convention — her fourth Convention. Jean’s experience includes the Operations Director for the Massachusetts Democratic State Party, Massachusetts Nurses Association Safe Patients Ballot initiative, and state government roles during the Gov. Patrick administration. The Secretary’s Office is a familiar role for her, having served as the director from 2007-2011.

Anatole Jenkins most recently served as the National Director of States Organizing for Joe Biden for President, and as a Fellow at Georgetown’s Institute of Politics and Public Service. Prior to that, he served as National GOTV Director at the DCCC and as National Organizing Director for Kamala Harris For The People and Organizing Together 2020. He served in many leadership positions for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, and led efforts for the winning candidate in the most expensive local race in US history, a Los Angeles County School Board race. Anatole got his start organizing for President Obama’s reelection campaign in Nevada before serving as the Coordinated Campaign Field Director for the Nevada State Democratic Party in 2014.

Juan Ortega previously served as Traveling Chief of Staff for Chair Tom Perez and led the DNC’s general election Latino outreach. Juan joined the DNC in 2018 as Personal Aide and Director of Travel and Advance. He has over 10 years of experience serving in political, communications, and advance roles for Democratic leaders and progressive causes at the local and national level. In addition to politics, Juan has years of experience working closely with talent during major television productions, including most recently serving as Talent Producer for the 2020 Latin GRAMMY and 2021 GRAMMY Premiere Ceremonies.

DNC Statement on RNC Donor Retreat

Ahead of the Republican National Committee’s donor retreat in Palm Beach, including at Mar-a-Lago, this weekend, DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:

“Nothing is more indicative of the sorry state the Republican Party is in than a bunch of mini-Trumps hanging out at Mar-a-Lago for their own version of the Apprentice.

“While Republicans hobnob with their special interest donors, President Biden and Democrats are delivering for everyday Americans, putting vaccines in arms, money in pockets, and bringing normalcy back.”

NEW GALLUP POLL: More Americans Identify As Democrats As Republican Party Sheds Voters

A new Gallup poll shows Democrats hold their largest advantage over Republicans in nearly a decade. Under President Joe Biden’s leadership the economy is on the path to recovery, and more Americans are getting vaccinated, seeing money in their pockets, and returning to normalcy – an incredibly popular and bipartisan agenda.

With bipartisan support for the Biden-Harris agenda, steady leadership, and a Republican Party with no message, more Americans are finding a home in the Democratic Party and leaving the Republican Party.

USA Today: “Gallup poll shows largest increase in Democratic Party affiliation in a decade”

Washington Post: “The Democratic advantage in party identification has gotten a lot wider”

Gallup: “In Gallup polling throughout the first quarter of 2021, an average of 49% of U.S. adults identified with the Democratic Party or said they are independents who lean toward the Democratic Party. That compares with 40% who identified as Republicans or Republican leaners. The nine-percentage-point Democratic advantage is the largest Gallup has measured since the fourth quarter of 2012.”

Bloomberg: “Gallup said the jump comes mostly from Republicans leaving the party at the end of President Donald Trump’s tenure. Only 25% of U.S. adults firmly identify with the Republicans, down from 29% late last year.”

The Biden-Harris agenda remains broadly popular, and as we turn toward the American Jobs Plan, Americans on both sides of the aisle continue to rally around the President’s bold agenda.

Politico’s Sam Stein: “If you look at the specific areas that Biden is plugging away at, roads, bridges, et cetera, 86% Democratic support, 69% independent support, 71% Republican support. You get down to other things like improving schools, 87% Democratic support, 63% independent support, and so on.”

DNC Launches Digital Homepage Takeover of the Arizona Daily Star to Thank Senators for Passing the American Rescue Plan, Helping Arizona Small Businesses

The Democratic National Committee today launched a new daylong digital advertising campaign taking over the homepage of the Arizona Daily Star to thank Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly for delivering needed relief to Arizonans and small businesses through the American Rescue Plan.

“There’s one thing Arizonans need to know: Help is here,” said DNC Chair Jaime Harrison. “The American Rescue Plan is a historic win for working families and small businesses in Arizona, and it’s already delivering the relief folks desperately need. Thanks to President Biden and Senators Sinema and Kelly, we are getting vaccines in arms, money in the pockets of families who need it, and relief to small businesses — but this is just the beginning. Democrats will continue reminding everyone that Arizona Republicans opposed COVID-19 relief, and that Democrats are focused on delivering the help Arizonans need.”

The homepage takeover will place ads on every available area of the Arizona Daily Star homepage today.

NEW POLL: Americans Really Want to Invest in Infrastructure. Congressional Republicans Don’t.

While congressional Republicans and the Washington press corps grapple with the definition of “infrastructure,” the American people know that it is a lot more than just our roads and bridges, and across the board they overwhelmingly support President Biden’s American Jobs Plan.

There is widespread, bipartisan support for massive investments in our country’s infrastructure–not just roads and bridges. Even Biden’s least popular proposals receive support from a majority of Americans.

Morning Consult: “The electorate’s apparent inclination to support the infrastructure plan persists when respondents were asked about specific proposals and their corresponding price tags, with even the least-popular proposals receiving support from half of the public or more.”

While Washington Republicans prepare to go to the mat to defend their 2017 corporate tax giveaway, Democrat, Republican, and independent voters all support raising corporate taxes to pay for infrastructure.

Morning Consult: “While the new poll doesn’t mention a specific level of taxation, the concept of raising taxes on corporations to fund Biden’s infrastructure plan is overwhelmingly backed by Democratic voters, with 85 percent support. Just 4 percent of Democrats said they oppose the tax hike. Republican voters were nearly split: 42 percent back the president’s plan to raise corporate taxes, while 47 percent oppose it. Independents were much more likely to support funding the infrastructure plan through corporate tax hikes (60 percent) than not (21 percent).”

Politico’s Sam Stein: “But the public is with you on this. The public does believe that corporations need to pay more in taxes or should pay more in taxes. The public also believes we need to invest in traditional infrastructure. If you put those two components together you have a popular plan yet again.”

More Than 156 Million Americans Have More Money In Their Pockets. ZERO Republicans Supported It.

Today, more than 156 million Americans have as much as $1,400 more in their bank accounts thanks to President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan. With more shots in arms and checks in pockets, it bears repeating that every single congressional Republican opposed speeding up our return to normalcy.

Since March 12, roughly $372 billion has been issued, helping Americans make their rent or mortgage payments, put food on the table, or pay the bills.

Associated Press: “The Treasury Department said Wednesday it has issued more than 156 million payments as part of President Joe Biden’s coronavirus relief plan, including 25 million payments that were primarily to Social Security beneficiaries who hadn’t filed 2019 or 2020 tax returns. The direct payments of as much as $1,400 per person were the cornerstone promise of Biden’s $1.9 trillion package to contain the pandemic and revive the U.S. economy. Roughly $372 billion has been paid out since March 12, a sum that likely boosted hiring last month as Americans had more money to spend.”

Millions of Americans across the country have already felt the impact of receiving stimulus checks, which has helped pay their bills and keep their businesses alive.

Colorado small business owner: “It’s keeping our dream alive.”

Arkansas cancer survivor: “It has kept a roof over my head and kept my lights on.”

SHOCKING: 55 Corporations Paid Nothing in Federal Income Taxes, and McConnell Tries to Protect Them

A shocking new report reveals that at least 55 of the country’s largest corporations paid no federal corporate income taxes last year as they raked in billions of dollars in profits, and used loopholes created by Republicans’ 2017 tax giveaway. Already Mitch McConnell and Republicans are circling the wagons to protect their corporate giveaway instead of investing in infrastructure.

President Biden’s American Jobs Plan is financed specifically by closing loopholes that allow these multi-billion dollar corporations to skate by without paying a single cent in federal income taxes.

Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy: “At least 55 of the largest corporations in America paid no federal corporate income taxes in their most recent fiscal year despite enjoying substantial pretax profits in the United States. This continues a decades-long trend of corporate tax avoidance by the biggest U.S. corporations, and it appears to be the product of long-standing tax breaks preserved or expanded by the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA).”

New York Times: “Just as the Biden administration is pushing to raise taxes on corporations, a new study finds that at least 55 of America’s largest paid no taxes last year on billions of dollars in profits. The sweeping tax bill passed in 2017 by a Republican Congress and signed into law by President Donald J. Trump reduced the corporate tax rate to 21 percent from 35 percent. But dozens of Fortune 500 companies were able to further shrink their tax bill — sometimes to zero — thanks to a range of legal deductions and exemptions that have become staples of the tax code, according to the analysis.”

New York Times: “The Biden administration announced this week that it planned to increase the corporate tax rate to 28 percent, and establish a kind of minimum tax that would limit the number of zero-payers. The White House estimated that the revisions would raise $2 trillion over 15 years, which will be used to fund the president’s ambitious infrastructure plan.”

Not only would Biden’s infrastructure plan raise billions from tax-avoiding corporations, it’ll create millions of new, good paying jobs.

Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce: “A $2 trillion jobs plan (of which $1.5 trillion will go to infrastructure) from the Biden-Harris administration would be good medicine to nurse the economic wounds inflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The infrastructure plan would create or save 15 million jobs over 10 years and would increase the share of infrastructure jobs from 11% to 14% of all jobs in this country, temporarily reviving the blue-collar economy.”

Reuters: “President Joe Biden’s massive infrastructure plan would create millions of jobs, undoing some of the economic damage inflicted by the coronavirus pandemic, economists said, with lower middle-income workers and minorities possibly benefiting the most.”
